The Equity and Inclusion Leadership Alliance of Nevada County (EILA) is a space for community leaders to work together to create a community where all can thrive and care for each other in support of our differences.  

 

In response to the recent violence in our community: 

A community is a web of people connected by shared values and a commitment to one another. To belong to a community means showing up for others, standing up for what is right, protecting those who are vulnerable, and choosing justice over silence. Our true strength is not revealed in times of ease, but in how we respond when harm, conflict, or fear touches any one of us.

Recently, members of our community have been targeted with violent and hateful acts. While the full details are still emerging, we can be unequivocal about one thing: this behavior is never acceptable. The individuals who committed these acts may live in our county, but they do not represent our community’s values, beliefs, or sense of justice. It is painful and disappointing to witness such acts, especially when it comes from within our own county. But it also reinforces our responsibility to make clear that hate and violence have no place here—and will not be tolerated.

When a community is tested, its true values come into focus. And our community has made it unmistakably clear: we will not stand for violence. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. The powerful, unified response from neighbors, leaders, and loved ones saying, “This is not OK,” reflects who we are and what we stand for. It is a reminder that we choose to live in a place where compassion, safety, and solidarity matter.

Those who acted with violence will learn that this is a peaceful and loving community —and that hateful behavior will not be accepted or ignored. We hold deep care for the victims of these attacks and trust they will receive the support, protection, and love they need to heal.

We also extend hope to those responsible. Accountability is essential, and consequences will follow. Yet we still believe in the possibility of growth, change, and repair. No one is beyond the potential to choose a different path and contribute to the well-being of the community they have harmed.

We are grateful to local law enforcement for their response in the recent attack, making arrests rapidly to keep us all safe. And to those upstanders and witnesses that intervened in this instance, you are to be commended and we acknowledge your strength of will and courage.

Our community embraces everyone, but we will not tolerate acts of violence or hate. EILA stands for justice. EILA proclaims that our community has no room for hate, and we will proudly stand to support our shared values. Hate and violence has no home here and will never be welcome.

Acerca de los recientes incidentes de ataques en nuestra comunidad

 

Una comunidad es una red de personas conectadas por valores compartidos y un compromiso mutuo. Pertenecer a una comunidad significa estar presente para los demás, defender lo que es correcto, proteger a quienes son vulnerables y elegir la justicia por encima del silencio. Nuestra verdadera fuerza no se revela en tiempos donde todo va bien, sino en cómo respondemos cuando el daño, el conflicto o el miedo afectan a cualquiera de nosotros.

 

Recientemente, miembros de nuestra comunidad han sido objeto de actos violentos y de odio. Aunque aún no tenemos toda la información,hay algo de lo que sí estamos seguros: este comportamiento es totalmente inaceptable. Las personas que cometieron estos actos pueden vivir en nuestro condado, pero no representan los valores, las creencias ni el sentido de la justicia de nuestra comunidad. Es doloroso y decepcionante ser testigos de actos como estos, especialmente cuando han pasado en nuestro propio condado. Pero nos hacen reafirmar nuestra responsabilidad de dejar claro que el odio y la violencia no tienen lugar aquí, y no serán tolerados.

 

Cuando una comunidad es puesta a prueba, sus verdaderos valores salen a la luz. Y nuestra comunidad lo ha dejado muy claro: no toleraremos la violencia. Un ataque contra uno de nosotros es un ataque contra todos nosotros. La poderosa y unificada respuesta de vecinos, líderes y seres queridos que dicen ‘’Esto no está bien’’ refleja quiénes somos y qué defendemos. Es un recordatorio de que elegimos vivir en un lugar donde la compasión, la seguridad y la solidaridad son importantes.

 

Aquellos que actuaron con violencia aprenderán que esta es una comunidad pacífica y amorosa, y que los comportamientos de odio no serán aceptados ni ignorados. Nos importan mucho, y sentimos profundo afecto por las víctimas de estos ataques y confiamos en que recibirán el apoyo, la protección y el amor que necesitan para sanar.

 

También queremos expresar nuestra esperanza acerca de los responsables. La rendición de cuentas es esencial y habrá consecuencias. Sin embargo, seguimos creyendo en la posibilidad de crecimiento, cambio y reparación. Nadie está más allá de la posibilidad de elegir un camino diferente y contribuir al bienestar de la comunidad a la que ha dañado.

 

Agradecemos al departamento de policía local su respuesta al reciente ataque, que ha procedido a detener rápidamente a los responsables para garantizar nuestra seguridad. Y a aquellos valientes y testigos que intervinieron en este caso, les felicitamos y reconocemos su fuerza de voluntad y su coraje.

Nuestra comunidad da la bienvenida a todo el mundo, pero no toleraremos actos de violencia ni odio. EILA defiende la justicia. EILA proclama que en nuestra comunidad no hay lugar para el odio y nos enorgullece defender nuestros valores comunes. El odio y la violencia no tienen lugar aquí y nunca serán bienvenidos.
